CONTRACEPTION: BCP messFrom: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 12 Feb 2009 07:30:27 -0600 (CST)
I started taking Loestrin FE 24 a few months ago. Then I had my OBGYN call in a script for a 3 month supply (since my insurance requires I do mail-in, blah blah blah). Apparently they okay'd the generic Loestrin, so when I got my new packs of pills in the mail they were different. The FE 24 has only four brown pills at the end of the pack but the generic has seven. I figured who cares and started taking them and now am experiencing a period mid cycle. It's not even a normal period. It has small clots, it's a mix of brown and red, and I spotted for three days before it actually got heavier and it's showing no signs of going away. So they're putting me back on Loestrin FE 24 The breakthrough period has happened to me with other BCP in the past. I thought since I did fine on FE 24 that the generic would be fine too. So what causes breakthrough bleeding and/or periods mid pack while on BCP? Is it likely that I will keep having this problem when I go back to the FE 24? Also I started a yeast infection shortly after the breakthrough bleeding started. I wasn't taking any antibiotics, but had started some new vitamins. Could the BCP or the vitamins effect yeast levels or is this just a really bad coincidence?
