CHRONICPAIN: Do medical descriptions like 'extensive' mean the same to different doctors? From: D (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Jan 2009 16:39:38 -0600 (CST)
Doctor #1 did laparoscopy & said no endo. Doctor #2 did laparoacopy 9 months later & said I had "extensive" endo. Doctor #3 wanted the surgical report & the report said, "there was fat. alot of serosal surfaces were difficult to visualize & biopsy." several area were suspicious for endometrial implants. so my question is when a doctor uses a term like "extensive" and the report says "suspected". In the medical field Are there "standard" meanings to words? Dr. #3 is questioning why I told him "extensive", then after reading this report he thinks I'm remembering wrong. I didn't lie to him, but it makes me feel bad because I when I told doctor #1 the outcome he appologized for missing something & now I'm not sure he missed anything. I have a call in to dr. #1 to appologize, He really cared & seemed visibly upset when I told him she found extensive endo. Thanks Diane
