Re: MENOPAUSE: Premenopause OR Not?From: Terese (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 Jan 2009 16:41:37 -0600 (CST)
Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Not only your TSH, but the free T3 and free T4's? Your cycle and fertility can be greatly impacted by your thyroid. I know this because my cycles were really off and I could not get pregnant, once I started taking thyroid medication my cycles straightened out and I became pregnant a couple of months after taking medication. You also might want to try a reproductive endrocrinologist as they have the most experience with fertility issues as well as problems with your cycle. They may also be able to detect if you have a thyroid problem or they may refer you to another endocrinologist to have your thyroid looked at. Keep in mind that the ranges for TSH test the labs do may be out of date. Most labs will say something like a range between .5-5.5 is "normal". However, according to the latest endocrinologist studies the new optimal range has changed to (somewhere around) .4-2.5, but not all labs reflect the new ranges. The optimal level in which women trying to conceive should be around 1.0-1.1. Discuss this with you doctor, if you go to http://www.thyroid-info.com/ and click on "top doctors" there are write-ups on thyroid doctors, if you end up taking this route. I really hope that you find out what is going on and find a good doctor that can help you!
