MENOPAUSE: Ovulation & MenopauseFrom: Kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Dec 2008 22:30:52 -0600 (CST)
I have a question regarding ovulation and menopause. I am 40 years old, not sexually active and have endometriosis. I have been monitoring my ovulation for a few months because I am going to be seeing a reproductive endocrinologist regarding artificial insemination for pregnancy. The question I haven't been able to find an answer to is this: if a woman is ovulating, what would cause no period? Could this be the beginning of menopause or perimenopause? My understanding is a woman ovulate and if she doesn't become pregnant then bleeding starts in order for her body to slough off the uterine lining. If this is the case, what happens to the uterine lining if bleeding doesn't occur? My last period was November 3rd, I then ovulated November 14th (according to ovulation sticks & basal body temperature). Since then, I haven't been checking ovulation sticks because they are expensive and I wouldn't know when to start checking again. I have, however, been checking my temperature and there was a spike in my temp around December 20th. Could ovulation still be occuring, but no menses? I am very confused about this!
