UROGYNECOLOGY: external urethral meatus open, enlarged and exposing internal tissueFrom: Cara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Dec 2008 13:51:10 -0600 (CST)
I am 53 years old, perimenopausal and sexually monogamous although infrequently having sex. I have not had sex for 3 months due to discomfort and lack of interest. 2 months ago I started taking a black cohosh suppliment for hot flashes. After 3 weeks I was extremely constipated and stopped taking it. I am afraid the staining has caused bladder problems because it felt as though my bladder and uterus were being pushed out with the straining. I have since developed symptoms of a UTI. A course of antibiotics have helped but I still feel the burning and urge to go at a lesser level. I also feel dry and itchy vaginally. A week ago I took a look at myself with a mirror and my external urethral meatus is open, much larger than previously seen and exposing bright red internal area. I am being very careful not to expose the area to soaps or other irritants or bacteria. I have a GYN appointment in 3 weeks. My questions: - What is causing the urethra to be open and can I do anything about it? - Is it okay to wait to see my GYN or should I try to go sooner? Thanks in advance for any assistance! :)
