Re: GYNECOLOGIC: Mild to Moderate Dysplasia and LEEPFrom: CLS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 30 Nov 2008 20:11:28 -0600 (CST)
Did she actually take biopsy specimens and do an ECC? Regardless, it doesn't sound like she's being very explanatory with you because you're clearly not comfortable with her. Definitely get a different doctor. Be sure to look at the lab report from the original PAP smear, and if the doctor did take biopsies and do an ECC, look at those results, too. In addition, make the new doctor give you a thorough explanation of what you have and what ALL your treatment options are, along with the risks and benefits. Your doctor is required to do this. Aside from that, a caring, ethical doctor wants you to be as educated as possible so that you can make an informed decision. If you are that reluctant about LEEP and the lab reports do show you need surgery, see if you qualify for something less invasive, such as cryosurgery or laser. Bear in mind they all have risks, benefits, and the same success rate, which your doctor must discuss with you. But what you have will determine what - if anything - would be the best surgical choice for you. Never let a doctor push you into anything that makes you uncomfortable. Never let a doctor bully you into anything through scare tactics before you have researched it. In addition, there is a lot you can do to boost your immune system. I see an accupuncturist who tailored a vitamin/herbal supplement "cocktail" for me. I already ate well, didn't smoke, etc., but I felt I needed the extra boost, after what happened to me.
