GYNECOLOGIC: Mild to Moderate Dysplasia and LEEPFrom: Allie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Nov 2008 23:27:32 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I'm 22 and I had my first abnormal PAP smear results in September, my first colposcopy a few weeks ago. The results from my first abnormal PAP said that I had Mild Dysplasia (CIN I), but a colposcopy was recommended to look into this further, although I was told this usually clears up by itself. After my colposcopy, I went to my OBGYN for the follow-up to discuss my results. She told me I had mild to moderate dysplasia, and recommended the LEEP procedure. I'm a bit concerned if going for the LEEP right away is going about this too hastily. I know this can cause some cervical scarring and possible complications during pregnancy. I'm young/do not smoke/live a healthy lifestyle. I am wondering if it would be OK not to go through with the LEEP right now and see if this clears up by itself? Or is the LEEP definitely needed for a MILD TO MODERATE DYSPLASIA diagnosis? I'm really unsure about what I should do at this point--I don't want an unnecessary procedure, and at the same time I don't want the dysplasia to progress to something more severe.
