GYNECOLOGIC: is BV masking the real issue? HELP PLEASE!From: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 27 Oct 2008 15:55:10 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Please help as I am on the edge of losing it. I am not normally this emotional. In June, I quit smoking. My hubby and I decided we wanted to start trying to get pregnant. In July I went to my primary care doc because I thought I had a UTI. I had burning only sometimes, but frequency and urgency were keeping me up practically all night long. I did not have a UTI. In August I did the same thing. Finally, I made a OB/GYN appointment. After my cultures came back, I was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis (garnerella) and prescribed Tindamax for 3 days. Less than a month later the symptoms seemed to be coming back so I went back to the ob/gyn. Cultures came back again with Gardnerella and also Ureaplasma. I was put on Flagyl for 7 days, and Doxycycline for 14 days. I took the two simultaneously. I started feeling like maybe a yeast infection was coming but then I finished the meds and it seemed to subside. My hubby and I didnt have intercouse the entire month of September due to this after I began the antibiotics. I was half embarassed about the odor, and half terrified it would make the infection not go away. I thought condoms would only cause more irritation. The week in between the appointment and the beginning of round 2 of antibiotics, I got pregnant. I didnt know I was pregnant until the very last day I took the doxycycline. I ended up having a miscarriage at the end of week 5. I had to go back to the doctor for a follow up appointment as I was out of town during the miscarriage. This was fine because I also felt that the yeast infection was not really gone from being on the antibiotics. I was again tested for all bacteria, and put on one dose of Diflucan for yeast, which was definately present. My doc called me today to tell me the cultures came back and I still have some Gardnerella! I am not getting yet another prescription for Flagyl. I am so frustrated! All I wanted to do was have a baby. And now it seems that this is an endless cycle. I miss being intimate with my husband. I hate having all of these symptoms. Am I missing something? Is something else possibly going on? My doc keeps saying not to worry about it. I have never had BV or Yeast infections until now. Do I need to have a second opinion?
