There is no way to determine what the cause of this bleeding is but it is definitely a warning sign telling you a complete evaluation is needed very soon. Periods should not prevent her from seeing the gynecologist. The only thing that is compromised by bleeding is a pap smear and this is not the issue right now. She may need a cystoscopy (look in the bladder) and a colonoscopy (look in the colon) as soon as possible.
