I'm an expat living in the Netherlands, and the health care system here is a bit different than what I'm used to in Canada. I'm not confident that the doctors I've seen are thorough enough in diagnosis or testing. So, although I'm seeing a doctor next week, I'm posting here as well to be as informed as I can. About 4 or 5 months ago, I started having dark brown to black spotting for anywhere from 5-10 days before my period. When I do get my period, I often have extremely heavy bleeding (ie, blood pouring out of me, super plus tampons hold for about 30 minutes) and huge blood clots. This doesn't happen every month, but it's happened 3 times in the last 8 months. I haven't had my period come at the same time each month for 3 years. I have Middle Schmertz as well, so that not only do I get my regular cramps on the first day that I actually start bleeding (red), but I also often have debilitating pin-point cramps in my right ovary about 6-8 times per year when I ovulate. I am otherwise healthy, but I have been tested for ovarian cysts about 10 years ago. I am not on birth control and do not want to go on it. My long-term partner and I use condoms. I've also had two abortions before I was 12 weeks along (both with my current partner)and I worry that I might have some sort of permanent damage that would prevent me from conceiving in the future. Like I said, I'm going to have my pap and a check-up soon, but the doctor is not the best one I've had and you don't really have much of a choice here when it comes to your GP.
