GYNECOLOGIC: Polyps and D&C

How necessary is a D&C? I have been tested and found to be perimenopausal with a period every 6 months or so for the last 2 years. I have not gone 12 months with no period. I had a normal exam and normal pap smear. I had two benign polyps removed from my cervix. Because of the polyps my doctor is recommending a D&C even though I am not having any abdominal pain, no excessive bleeding, no history of any cancers whatsoever in both sides of my family (with the exception of lung cancer in a couple of 70-80yr old smokers.) I believe he is being overly cautious at a time when my period is dying down anyway. I want to wait it out and let nature take its course.
