CORNUALPREGNANCY: Cornual pregnancy diagnosis and questionsFrom: Zil (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 6 Oct 2008 18:08:04 -0500 (CDT)
Hi - I had a laparoscopy (cornual wedge uterine resection and tube removal) on 9/18/2008 to address what was diagnosed as a cornual ectopic pregnancy. I was 11wks 2dys pregnant at the time and really wanted this baby - so it was a huge heartbreak. I was wondering if there's anyone else out there who had a cornual ectopic. If so, how were you diagnosed. None of my scans, including the MRI, were conclusive. The ultrasounds just showed the sac high in the corner of the uterus - this was first flagged on 9/11 with a second scan on 9/17 showing the sac moving right and not dropping into the uterus - but it had 360-degrees of myometrium and nothing obvious in the cornua. The MRI showed 8mm myometrium all the way around with the bulging into the right cornua, but no placenta in the cornua. Apparently cornual pregnancies are not all that common (i went to a big teching hospital for OB care - and they only see a handful like this per year), so I'm wondering if this is the standard diagnosis given my results. Should it have been watched a little longer before action was taken? In reading through the pathology reports, there's nothing that states the placenta was found in the portion of my tube that was removed - yet the final diagnosis was "cornual pregnancy". To follow-up, is it safe to get pregnant after a uterine resection? What tests would I need to ask for? I know I would need IVF. Thanks for any insight.
