MENORRHAGIA: 5 Months w/ no period and several neg. pregnancy tests...From: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 6 Oct 2008 17:56:25 -0500 (CDT)
Thanks, first off, for this website and for your time. Its such a great resource! I'm a 22 year old female, and I do have a history of ovarian cysts that aren't always preventable by birth control pills. In the past, they have never caused me to miss more than 2 periods; the cycle was generally no period for one or two, then they would start and last 3, 4 or more months steady, and this went on for about 3 and a half years. Now, I'm going on 5 months, and I've only had about a day and a half of very, very light bleeding, nowhere near a normal cycle, at the beginning of August. I've taken several pregnancy tests over the last 4 months, some at night, some first thing in the morning like the tests recommend, and all were negative. I've seen my doctor, but he didn't do a blood test for pregnancy, and it was after only 2 months of no period. He also mentioned that he didn't feel any cysts, and I hadn't felt any in the preceding few months either. In the last 2 months, I've been gaining weight, and my breasts have started to swell a little. I've been very, very moody and feeling slightly more tired than usual. I've been urinating more, but not consistently; and the latest, and most alarming, "symptom" is a strange feeling in my stomach, almost like gas, but much softer. I could describe it as a flutter sometimes, but it has also had a "popping" sensation (that's the one that feels a little like gas) and I notice it more when I'm laying down. I've called my doctor, and the nurse I spoke with did not seem at all interested in listening to me. She just kept telling me to take my birth control pills, because I was off of them (for lack of insurance) for close to a year and I just got a new prescription. At this point, I don't want to start taking them until I know I'm not pregnant. My question is, how probable is it that I could be pregnant after 5 negative home pregnancy tests? I've read that it is possible to get a false negative, but what about 5 in 4 months time? If it isn't pregnancy, could any of these symptoms be related to my ovarian cysts? (If so, they are not symptoms that I'd ever had in the past related to my cysts; I don't have any pain like I usually do, and that's really the only symptom I have when I have a cyst.)
