CHRONICPAIN: Very painful ultrasound today with no cysts seen, still in severe pain, very depressed and without answersFrom: michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 1 Oct 2008 17:56:02 -0500 (CDT)
I've been having bad pelvic pain for a couple of months. Finally, went to the doctor yesterday because I thought maybe there were cysts again. Found out I had a UTI, despite having none of the usual symptoms. Was sent for an ultrasound today to check out ovaries. The abdominal ultrasound was uncomfortable but tolerable. The vaginal ultrasound about sent me through the roof. The tech was moving the wand around the left ovary area and it hurt so much I had to grit my teeth to keep from screaming or crying. At the end of it all, the tech announced that she looked all around and found nothing. The left side of my pelvis was hurting so much at that point I thought I would vomit, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance so that's saying something! It continued to hurt severely and throb for a good 45 minutes, at which point I also started to get a sharp pain below my left ribs and also in my left shoulder. It's 2 hours later and it's still hurting like that and I'm still nauseous. My question then is if there is no cyst, what could possibly be causing so much pain. She obviously hit upon something with that wand or I wouldn't be hurting this much. I had a laparoscopy for adhesions last June, so it shouldn't be those or endometriosis this soon. If the pain were from the UTI then I think it would be my bladder that would hurt but that doesn't hurt at all. It's all off to the sides of the pelvis. I'm supposed to follow up with my doctor next week for the ultrasound, but I feel like there's no point to it since nothing showed up on the ultrasound. Can anyone help with advice or suggestions? Thanks.
