STD: testing for Chlamydia etc.From: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 24 Aug 2008 12:01:08 -0500 (CDT)
Can chlamydia and gonorrhea infect different parts of the body if the infection got into them (ie. the urinary system, rectum)? And if so, would a typical STD swab from the cervix come back positive for either of the diseases if another area of the body was what was infected (ex. if the chlamydia or gonorrhea infection was in your bladder, not your cervix, would a cervical swab still show you had the disease)? I have had negative STD tests (from cervical swabs) for both clamydia and gonorrhea, but am having what appears to my doctor to be bladder problems (cloudy urine, WBC's in urine, etc.) but urine cultures are negative, so she has suggested that I get tested for the STD's, but if I haven't had sex since I last tested negative for all STD's then how could I have any of them? So is it possible that maybe one of the diseases is living in a different system of my body from some kind of untreated, undiagnosed infection from years ago??? I have been dealing with pelvic pain for years with no solution. Thanks
