I am 24 years old and I am diagnosed with transverse vaginal septum and am told that It needs to be corrected with a surgical procedure. We are planning to have kids in the next year.

We live in DC metro area and I would like to consult some one who is good and experienced with this procedure.

(1) Are these septum's normal? How many women out of 100 will have these?

(2) How long and complicated is the procedure? Is this some thing every Ob/Gyn does on a regular basis? Are there any specialists in the DC area??

(3) Does it have any relation with PCO's?

(4) Does it lead to infertility?

(5) I read on the internet that if the procedure is not done carefully, it can lead to complications with other organs such as the bladder and rectum. Is there any truth in it?
