L, I have been reading and posting on this forum for a while. I am not a medical professional, but a female patient with a host of problems that were caused by a synthetic bladder sling that went wrong. I have been seeing many doctors over the last 15 months and when I first read your post I thought to myself that you sounded very hostile against male doctors. You said you wanted an open discussion, but the way your email was written, it was clear that you did not like male doctors and asked if they had the wrong motives for becoming doctors..... I don't know how much you had to deal with doctors in the past and what your experiences are, but I can understand why none of the doctors on this forum posted. All of them use their rare spare time to help and answer questions. I can tell you that I have seen many doctors, male and females and gender is not the determining factor whether they are caring or not. I am with a male doctor right now, and I can honestly say, not only is he an expert in his field, but he is probably one of the most caring persons I ever met. He has over 30 years of experience and I am by now a very difficult case with lots and lots of problems in very touchy areas of my body. Never once did I get the feeling that I could not talk to him about all the problems I am experiencing. This doctor I am seeing now does not usually have a nurse in the room when he exams me. I am not sure if this is always the case or if we know each other well enough by now that he knows that I am okay without a nurse. I grew up in Europe and we don't have nurses in the examroom, I personally don't care either way, but the way people like to sue their doctors here in the US I can understand why a male doctor would want a nurse in the room. I don't unsually respond to posts like this, but I really felt the need this time. If you don't like male doctors, try to avoid them as much as possible, but don't assume that male doctors can't be caring or have the wrong motives to be in the profession they are in..... I have met many male doctors that were very caring. I don't think gender matters. You will receive good care from a doctor that takes the time to listen, keeps open communication and is an expert in his/her field, no matter if it a female or male doctor..... caitcon
