Re: GENERAL: a question for chaperone nursesFrom: Hope Waltman (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 20 Aug 2008 22:42:20 -0500 (CDT)
Pat is right. These type of questions have been answered in the past. I, the Moderator, asked to have your message deleted not the 'male' or 'female' doctors. In some states it is a requirement to have a nurse in when a female patient is being examined. Also, it is sometimes necessary for the nurse to be there to help the doctor with equipment, calming the patient, writing down info, etc. In many states women would be happy to keep their doctors! Many doctors are in the process of retiring, moving their practices to different states because of the healthcare programs in some states are broken. The SKILL level and the ability of the doctor is what counts and how the doctor treats a patient. Sex and age of a doctor doesn't put them into certain categories. Many times patients forget that doctors are human and have a family to be concerned about just like everyone else. The doctors would want the best doctor to handle their children/wife case and would not look at the sex/age of the physician, but look at the expertise of the physician. Please remember as a patient you don't have to go to a male doctor if YOU don't want to. There are plenty of wonderful female doctors that you could go to. Please don't feel like you have to stay with a doctor if you don't like them or don't feel comfortable with them. Don't be afraid to ask YOUR doctor questions. Thank you for bringing up this point that women do have a choice of what physician they want to go to for medical advice. Best Regards, Hope Waltman, WH Forum Moderator
