HYSTERECTOMY: Pelvic Floor & PainFrom: Young Mama (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Jul 2008 15:06:19 -0500 (CDT)
I have a 22 month old daughter and a 9 month old son, therefore I had them pretty close together (13 months apart). Since my son was 3 months old I have been having irregular periods and a lot of pelvic floor pain (almost nerve-damage like pain). My son got stuck during delivery so I had to alter my position a few times. Everything was fine afterwards, so it seemed, and I was released from the hospital 16 hours after being admitted. About a month after his birth I started to vigorously work-out to lose the extra weight I had gained from the pregnancy. I had to stop for a while because we were moving and that is when I noticed the "nerve" pain in my labia area. I also started to get 2-5 days of extra bleeding every month before I would start my period. I began to notice that my uterus was prolapsing and two doctors confirmed this to be true. I have had a lot of hair loss during these past 4 months, I have had terrible head aches, pelvic pain, and cramping. On top of all that, irregular bleeding. My doctor just put me on birth control to see if that would help with some of the pain and irregular bleeding but so far it hasn't worked. I have gone through 1 complete pack now and I still had 8 days of pink/red mucousy discharge before my 10 day period. I am feeling tired and sluggish and I am beginning to fear that I am becoming anemic because of this (if that's possible). My mom just had to have a hysterectomy because of prolapsed uterus but my doctor says that I am too young to think about having that done. I just turned 30 so I AM relatively young. My doc says that the next option would be a pessary to lift my uterus back in place but this pessary would have to be taken out to be cleaned and if I ever wanted to have intercourse. WHAT A PAIN THAT WOULD BE! I just want a solution that I don't have to worry about maintaining. Part of me thinks that there is more wrong with me than just a prolapsed uterus. I have constipation and some pain during intercourse (INSIDE). Is a hysterectomy the best solution for me? We are certain that we don't want anymore kids so that wouldn't be a problem for me. What is the answer?
