LABOURDELIVERY: Third degree tearingFrom: Senzafine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 22 Jul 2008 23:17:49 -0500 (CDT)
I gave birth to my first child one week ago vaginally (I was induced with oxytocin at 12 days post-due date). The entire delivery was drug-free except for the oxytocin. I experienced third degree tearing. I have a couple of questions about third degree tearing that I would love some info on. If I hadn't been induced, would my labour likely have been slower than the 9 hours it was and allowed the baby's head to change shape more appropriately? She came out with a perfectly round, 37 cm. head. I only pushed for about 1 hour. What is the likelihood that the tearing would occur again if I wanted to deliver vaginally for future children? My doctor recommends future c-sections, but I would really rather avoid that if it's likely I can vaginally deliver without this kind of tearing occurring again. Thanks for any help.
