GENERAL: Is it safe to travel with a dermoid cyst? From: hcwm (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 Jul 2008 22:43:34 -0500 (CDT)
My wife is pregnant(12 weeks), yesterday she had an ultrasound, the baby is OK but found there is a cyst on her left ovary, the size of the cyst is about 60x40x50mm. The doctor think it is a dermoid cyst, since there is an echogenic area inside (14x7x10mm). She never had a ultrasound before, so it is not clear when did this cyst begin. We have planned a business+vocation trip starts this Sunday before we found the cyst. The trip plan is that we are going to fly from east coast to CO for a week(business), then spend the following 10 days drive around UT,AZ,NV,CA (vocation), and fly back from CA to east coast. The doctor is conservative about the travel, worried about possible rupture or torsion. We are struggling on deciding if we should go as planned, cut short the trip or just call it off. Given the measure of her dermoid cyst, is it a big one or small one? How often (or what is the likelihood) is a dermoid cyst going to rupture or cause torsion?
