BARTHOLIN'SGLAND: Bartholin's gland removal?

Hi, I have had recurring Bartholin's gland abscesses on the right side for the past three years (about 10 in all). I had a marsupilization last September. In January, it began hurting again. It was painful for about a week but did not swell or anything and just went away on its own. My gyn recommends gland removal, but doesn't want to do it unless everything is all swollen (I guess so they can see to get all of it). But now it's hurting again, and not swelling again, and I'm sick of it! I want to get rid of this thing once and for all! Can I have gland removal surgery without the abscess being all swollen? Currently, I can feel a lump there and it is painful, but not swollen.
