CHRONICPAIN: pelvic pain and only ultrasound?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the pelvic pain/bloating that has been bothering me for a few weeks now, maybe you guys can help me with what to do next: i am 24 and still a virgin; no irregular or heavy periods ever (29-30 days), got my first period when i was 13, no unusual discharge, no itching, tenderness or burning sensation "down there", no fever, no vomiting ... some mild back pain though and changes in my bowel movement, mild diarrhea, which got better. Everything pretty normal, except the stupid pelvic pain i have been experiencing for 4 or 5 weeks now.

I went to the OB/GYN two weeks ago, as the pain - cramps, to be more precise - got worse and the bloating started to scare me. As i haven't had intercourse yet, the OB/GYN decided to examine me by using the transabdominal ultrasound. No bimanual, no Pap smear, no transvaginal, no speculum. She said that i didn't need it, as the causes of pelvic pain, if gynecological, could be detected with the ultrasound in my case, and that that was our priority for now. The ultrasound came back perfectly normal and as i mentioned the gas (flatulence?) and the diarrhea and the fact that my pain seems to be "moving" from one side of my pelvic area to the other and back, she referred me to a gastroenterologist, she thinks the IBS might be the cause of all of this. I got my period yesterday, normal amount of blood, the annoying cramps are still present, the bloating seems to be slowly subsiding, do feel a bit fatigued now.

I had never been to an OB/GYN before (my mistake, i know!) and i was prepared for a more detailed pelvic exam. Is this really all i needed to eliminate gyn problems as the cause of my pelvic pain? I have scheduled an appointment with a gastroenterologist next week ...

Does this seem ok? Ana
