PREGNANCY: Fever during early pregnancyFrom: Caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 9 Jun 2008 15:49:39 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I am currently 15 weeks pregnant. I had a fever when I was just 5 weeks pregnant (3 weeks post conception). The fever lasted only for 24 hours and was generally under 101 F but did hang around 101.7 for about 5-6 hours and went up to 102 briefly two times (I was taking my temp every 10 minutes like a mad woman). My doctors have told me not too worry saying if something bad were to have happend I would have m/c'd by now. But of course I cannot stop worrying. Surely I am not the only pregnant woman to have gotten a fever in the early weeks of pregnancy. How worried should i really be -- i.e., how much does this increase the risk for a birth defect? Is Neural tube defect the only thing I should be concerned about?
