Re: PREGNANCY: Sweeping MembranesFrom: D. Ashley Hill, M.D. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 5 Jun 2008 17:24:43 -0500 (CDT)
Your story reminded me of a delivery a few years ago where the husband started shouting "cut the episiotomy, cut the episiotomy" over and over just as the head was crowning. I don't normally perform episiotomies, and I've never had a patient's husband yell at me during a delivery. I was trying to explain to him why we don't do routine episiotomies, when I noticed him grab the scissors off my instrument cart and try to reach in to cut one himself! I had to shoulder-block him, then deliver the baby. I was sure he was going to stab me in the back, but thankfully he sat down and dropped my scissors. The patient told me later that where he came from the doctor always cuts an episiotomy. I told her that he can be there for the conception of her next pregnancy, but not the delivery :) Best wishes, Ashley
