Is it possible that this man's compassion was mistaken for enjoyment? Sometimes when a person is tense, the internal exam can take longer because the doctor is trying to go slow and be gentle, to minimize discomfort. I have also found from personal experience that some doctors are more thorough than others and make take longer doing an exam. As for calling you "sweetie" and smiling, working in healthcare, I have heard many workers (doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc....male & female) refer to patients with pet names, such as "sweetie", "honey", "princess", "buddy" (for males)....although this may not be politically correct and some may even find it disrespectful, we are all human and may not make the best decisions at all times. As for smiling, I prefer a doctor that smiles. I hate when the issue comes up regarding male or female doctors...."I am sure he was enjoying himself". I wonder if this would have been the thought if it were a woman performing the exam refering to the patient as "sweetie" and smiling. We have lost doctors in the past because of "male bashing" and I hope it doesn't happen again!
