I agree with others that you should see a gyn. Please don't hesitate out of embarrassment. As strange as it might seem, a lot of our job is to help women having vaginal problems. Put another way, by the time a gynecologist finishes his or her 4 years of training, he or she has likely done 10,000 or so female genital exams, so please be comfortable that your doctor can help.

It's possible that you are looking at normal or slightly enlarged hymenal tissue, since you are a virgin. A painless exam should give you a quick answer. If this is what is is, then you may not need treatment, unless you are not able to use tampons. Sometimes, although not often, a brief outpatient procedure is necessary to enlarge the opening, but this is pretty uncommon. Good luck and best wishes.
