Also, unfortunately, not all doctors have the same level of training or expertise. The first step is to get a firm diagnosis (candida, B.V., cytolytic vaginitis, etc) then discuss treatment options. Your doctor should also take a careful history to see if you are using any products that could cause symptoms (for example, chronic panty liner usage can irritate sensitive vulvar skin). If you live in a big city try the nearest medical school department of ob/gyn. If not, ask your doctor for a referral to someplace or someone specializing in vulvar disorders or vaginal infections.
