PREGNANCY: got a shot to start my period,but still may be pregnant

my period is 24 days late.MY BLOOD TEST AND HOME TEST CAME BACK NEGATIVE
at 6 days late. All my tests came back negative with my daughter until
I was 8 weeks pregnant,so I don't trust them. we did an ultra sound at
16 days late the doctor said it look like a closed uterus,which is a
sign of pregnancy,but gave me a shot to start my period??? he said if I
am pregnant my period will not start and its completely safe?? other
wise it gets me back to being regular..its very concerning to me that
this is safe???? does any know anything about this shot???
