I beg to differ with Pat's comment that women (or NP's) do a more gentle
exam. That is way too broad of a statement. The absolute worst care
and roughest exams I have had have been done by women.
I feel like the most important thing to remember is that you should be
comfortable with your Dr or NP or whomever is doing your exam. It
doesn't hurt to take a xanax or such before an exam.
I was examined the first time before I was sexually active and it did
not hurt a bit, and it was medically necessary.
