PREGNANCY: Abnormal Bleeding after Childbirth

My pregnancy was rough but when it came time to deliver everything went fine. About 10 minutes after my daughter was born I began to pass clots. Everyone remained calm about it for another 10 minutes, then people became frantic. They called my doctor back to the hispital, knocked me out and tried to do a D&C. When that failed they opened my abdomen. My doctor described it as "uterus and organs weeping blood." By the time he got the bleeding to stop I had lost more than half of my blood supply. No one could ever give me a reason for the bleeding. My family is terrified for me to become pregnant again. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened and if it will happen again??
