PREGNANCY: Update to PIH, IUGR, steroids and (now) HELLP

I just thought I'd update anyone who might have been interested. At 31.5 weeks we had to deliver our precious baby boy because of a very quick onset of HELLP. I had been diagnosed at 28 weeks with PIH adn noticed no significan t ahcnages recently. At 30 wks, Jackson was diagnosed with IUGR at < 3%. I took steriods on Monday and Tuesday of this week to aid in he growth of his lungs. I got sick on Thursday in the early morning hours. By noon on Thursday, they delivered my healthy AGA boy (yes, AGA!) at 2 lbs 15 oz at 31.5 weeks. He is currently doing wonderfully - after 1.5 days in the real world. My labwork still insn't good (liver enzymes are in the 400 & 700 levels and my platelet count is currently at 44. (It dropped from 240 @ 5 AM to 104 @ 10 AM to 27 @ 2 AM the next day and is now on its way up at 44 @ 10AM the following day.

But, this is a warning to pregnant women out there ... my "liver pain" presented itself as crushing chest, back, shoulder & neck pain rather than the typical upper-right-quadrant pain. This delayed the diagnosis (since an incompetant nurse told me I needed to go to the ER rather than OB triage) and made the situation much more severe than it needed to be!
