VAGINALINFECTIONS: Persistent Group Beta StreptococcusFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Mar 2008 19:46:04 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 19 year old non pregnant female. I have Group Beta Streptococcus and I have been trying to get rid of it for about 3 years now. I have done lots of research on the infection and realize it is part of the normal body flora and normally goes untreated in non pregnant females. I have been tested for every other possibility (so I think) and I have been on and off antibiotics for the past three years. The reason I would like to get rid of the infection is because I get a very heavy discharge all the time and is sometimes companied with a bothersome itch. I have been to an OBG YN and also to an Infectious Disease doctor. My most recent dose of antibiotics was on Penicillin Vk 500mg 4 times a day. The discharge stopped while I was on the antibiotics but came back as soon as I stopped taking them. But being on such high doses really drained me and made me tired. I am also worried about being on so many antibiotics because I don't want to kill off the good bacteria in my body. I have tried other herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin C, and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Nothing seems to work. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
