MENORRHAGIA: Confused about AygestinFrom: Andi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Mar 2008 15:34:03 -0500 (CDT)
I am 34 and overweight, I have had non stop bleeding for months. I have had ultrasounds (no polyps or fibroids), pap smear (normal), endo biopsy (negative), glucose test (normal, no PCOS). I guess the bleeding is due to me being overweight and having unopposed estrogen. My dr prescribed aygestin for 2 times a day for 1 week. After 3 days my bleeding stopped. I am having some side effects including cramping but nothing too bad. I'm confused as to how aygestin works and what to expect. I've read that many people take aygestin to bring on a period. Am I to expect a period after I'm done with the pills? I'm worried I am going to start bleeding and not stop again. The dr said just take it for a week and to come back in 3 months. Isn't this a medication that I need to take monthly? I have had blood clots in the past so cannot take birth control pills. I am currently taking coumadin along with the aygestin. Losing weight is going to take time so how can I regulate my cycle? I have called the dr to ask these questions but I always get a nurse calling back and she doesn't know, she just said to watch it for the next 3 months. Any advice?
