GENERAL: Yeast infection?

I'm hoping someone can give me some input. This morning I wiped after urinating and discovered a very sore spot on my vagina. I looked in the mirror and I can see that one side of my labia towards the back is quite swollen and a little red, no lumps or sores or anything. It's very painful actually. I also have had some itching both in that area and inside the vagina on and off during the day. I purchased one of those tests for yeast/bacterial infection and it came out negative for anything major, but did say that I could have a yeast infection with the results I got. I don't have any major discharge or terrible itching that I've had with yeast infections in the past. My Dr's office said try some monistat external cream and a sitz bath and call them next week. I'm honestly freaking out because it doesn't feel like a yeast infection to me. The monistat cream seems to help it feel better. I don't have any reason to suspect an STD. I'm happily married and have no reason to believe my husband has been unfaithful but I can't imagine what this is. It hurts to walk. Does this sounds at all like a yeast infection?
