MENOPAUSE: osteopenia diagnosis after hysterectomy for cancerFrom: Cindi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 9 Mar 2008 18:01:27 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I had a total hysterectomy with oophorectomy April 2007 due to Grade 1 Endometrial cancer. In March of this year, 2008, I was diagnosed with severe Osteopenia (lumbar spine -2.2; total hip -1.2). I am wondering about the following questions: 1. Would testosterone hormone therapy (if I am found to be low in testosterone) be contraindicated with my recent cancer history? I ask because it seems that any form of estrogen is out of the question. (There are no female reproductive cancers in my immediate family.) 2. Would the effects of the hysterectomy (11 months ago), have had an immediate effect (drastic reduction) on my bone density? I ask because my lifestyle was almost perfect for safeguarding against Osteopenia(right load-bearing exercise for years, no smoking, limited drinking, Cal-Mag supplements etc.). It seems that genetics may be playing a larger hand for me (older sister with osteoporosis) rather than lifstyle. Thanks, Cindi
