CONTRACEPTION: Pain with Mirena- fear of malpractice

Instead of going to my regular gyno, I chose to make an appt with the new nurse practitioner (she was called a dr, but had no Rx sheets and was new, so i'm not sure of her title) at the office. At my normal exam, I asked about birth control options, mostly about mirena. I asked her if I would feel pain at insertion and she told me that the procedure only took a few minutes and I would have little or no pain- more like "mild cramping." she made a comment during my checkup about my uterus being tilted back, and how small I was. Mind you, I have never had children and I am 5'3" 105 lbs. She said this would be no problem.

Day of procedure: by far the worst pain of my life. It took over an hour- with several panicked trips in and out of the room by the nurse to get smaller and different "cervical dialators" and there was confusion over where the doctor could find a "sound." Then she made me wait in excurtiating pain while she was "waiting until my cervix dialated". She tried to put the mirena in, then had to take it out and try again after finding this "sound" that she couldn't find before the initial try. I pleaded for something to ease the pain. she never answered me. After it was in, she left the office quietly and looked as if she wanted to cry! then handed the nurse a Rx for an antibiotic and i had to ask the nurse to find the doctor and ask her why i needed the Rx.

That Dr is never touching me again.. I was in horrible pain for two days, and still I feel sharp pains every once in a while or whenever I have to go to the bathroom. I feared having sex for 3 weeks. now my partner can't go in deep without me feeling pain. I can feel the strings and they are fine. I'm scared!

Can this be normal? Should I get myself a lawyer?? Is this malpractice or am I simply a rare occurance?
