Re: GYNECOLOGIC: bleedingFrom: D. Ashley Hill, M.D. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 4 Feb 2008 00:26:13 -0600 (CST)
There are many reasons why someone might have the bleeding pattern you describe, and almost all of them are annoying, but harmless. It could be hormonal, or due to a problem inside the uterine lining, such as polyps or fibroids. It also could be due to an infection of the vagina or cervix. There is a lot "going on" inside the female genital organs and abnormal bleeding is a very common symptom. In fact, about 1/10 visits to family practice doctors are due to abnormal uterine bleeding. Thankfully with a good history, physical exam, and (sometimes) an ultrasound or similar, the diagnosis is determined. Best wishes,
