PREGNANCY: pregnancy after inguinal hernia repairFrom: Natsmom (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jan 2008 17:50:22 -0600 (CST)
I have recently been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia (right side). I am in no pain but have a small (about the size of a quarter) lump when I am standing (but gets a lot smaller when lying down). I am feeling a slight "pulling" sensation in the area at times, but no pain. I had a double hernia operation in the same area when I was 3, but am in my early 30s now. I am scheduled to consult a surgeon next week, but am upset because my husband and I were just about to start trying to conceive for our second child. Is surgery usually advised before getting pregnant, and if so, how long do you typically need to wait after surgery to try to conceive? Also, is mesh an issue if planning to get pregnant? Thank you for any information you can give!
