GENERAL: High fever in pregnancy and with D&C/ablationFrom: Heated up in Ohio (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 27 Jan 2008 19:47:21 -0600 (CST)
The last trimester of my last pregnancy, I developed a fever of unknown origin. It peaked at around 103 (with chills) and then hovered around 101 until Nate was delivered. All kinds of tests were done on me which came back normal. They did dopplers on my legs to test for phlebitis which came back normal. I was even seeing an infectious disease doctor while I was pregnant who ran all kinds of tests including HIV, CMV, SED etc. All came back normal. So it was called "fever of unknown origin." With delivery (thankfully a completely healthy baby) the fever came down. Now I have a D & C and endometrial ablation (for heavy bleeding from fibroids) and my temp spikes to 105.6. The utlra sound previous to the procedures did not show any endometrial or myometrial abscess or tumors. But the similarity between the two is in both cases my uterus was distended. In the first case, my uterus was distended from pregnancy and in this case my uterus was distended from the procedures. The OB/GYN did a physical exam the day after my temp went to 105.6 and it was not hard or painful, nor did the endometrium seem infected. Yet, a 105.6 temp? By the way, neither my husband who is a physician nor I think that I happened to coincidentally catch a virus because no one in the house is similarly sick except for me. I was given leviquin (500 mg) almost immediately which is why we think that the CBC that was eventually drawn was within the normal range. My temp is now (7 days later) with levaquin and advil finally near normal ... (about 99 most of today). So ... what gives? Could I have a chronic low grade myometrial infection that flares up when distended and heated up. Right now, we're all pretty mad at my uterus. (wink wink)
