CONTRACEPTION: rash due to orthotricyclen-lo?

I have been taking orthotricyclen-lo for 8 days, and for the last two days I've had a red bumpy rash (mildy itchy, but not burning rash) on the back of my knees. I've had no other side effects. The rash was temporarily relieved by a corticosteroid cream, which may have been a bad move on my part since I've read that corticosteroids can reduce the effectiveness of birth control (but I am not sexually active). I was wondering if the rash was due to the birth control and if I should discontinue using it or if it was due to seasonal allergies.
