MENOPAUSE: Thickened endometrial lining.... inducing a period with progesterone?

Hello! Just found this place.

Perhaps someone has experience in this area.

I'm 55 and my last real period was in early 2006. I had one induced period because of thickened endometrial lining. Progesterone was rxed for 10 days, 20 mg provera... tho I was having trouble with the 20 mg so had to cut back a bit. DID get the period!! That was later in 2006.

Went on HRT cuz of horrible night sweats, l mg estradiol and l00 prometrium.

All has been well but now another build up of my endometrial lining. Was rxed .5 estradiol and l0 mg provera for 5 days to have a "period". Got all crampy and felt like there'd be bleeding, but no. And coming off the provera was disgusting... nausea, bloating, diarrhea. I truly hate progesterone. For some reason Prometrium was even worse than provera in this instance.

Had another ultrasound, same thick endometrium, was rxed l0 mg provera for 5 days (no estradiol as I stopped it entirely when all this happened, tho the flashes have been pretty awful). Am taking Estroven meanwhile, which I HOPE doesn't interfere with my hypothyroid condition (take synthroid).

Does this dosage of provera sound like enough? I just wonder since the first time round was l0 days of 20 mg.... this is 5 days of l0 mg.

If I don't get bleeding then I have to get a biopsy ;-/ I sure want to avoid that as I have no transportation there or back, and figure they must give you something for pain. Also, what are the odds of a thick lining being cancerous?

Would this indicate I should not take any more estrogen ever (tho I may want to jump off a cliff if the nightsweats get really bad, as they were)?

Thanks so much.

Any input is appreciated.

Pray for my "period"! lol...

Thanx.

C.
