Macrodantin 50mg is the most common prophylactic medication used for recurrent urinary tract infections. There are low does of acyclovir used for HSV prevention. I cannot speak to these other medications. I do not believe all of these medications are used regularly for a urinary tract infections, and even fewer of them are used prophylactically. Perhaps some of the other gyn providers have some comments. on this. These issues all fall within the prerogative of the prescriber. A good source for some of your questions would be your local pharmacist. I would be cautious about using anything prophylactically for a long period of time. I suspect a resistance would develop with some of these medications.
