Re: PREGNANCY: Positive TB skin test @13 weeks - (CDC website info)From: Daniel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 15 Nov 2007 16:06:02 -0600 (CST)
I have done quite a bit of reading in relation to TB testing, and would refer you to http://www.cellestis.com BCG vaccination is well know to produce a false positive for TB, and therefore results in unnecessary treatment for latent TB. The Quantiferon test is more specific & is not affected by BCG vaccination. The CDC do not currently recommend Quantiferon testing in pregnancy, but as the test is performed using blood drawn from the patient, there is no risk to the mother or child, unlike TST which involves skin testing. If you are unsure, it may be worth contacting Cellestis - the manufacturers of the Quantiferon test as they may have current independent medical research in relation to pregnancy. Regards Daniel
