CHRONICPAIN: can obgyn's do colonoscopy? & a question about MD's

I forgot to ask earlier, I'm going to see a new obgyn on monday for a second opinion about my irregular periods & I'm going to mention to him my left side pelvic dull ache, My family doctor thinks I need a gastrenterologist. But since there is so much going on with me, I'd like to ask him if he could help me figure which end my problem is in!!

Do (or should I say can) obgyns do colonoscopies to investigate pelvic pain? I really don't want to see a 5th doctor.

I'm confused about what MD means some say DO. . .

Different doctors have the initials MD but they don't seem to have broad interests-- they refer so much. how does that work?

Do they graduate qualified in basic health but choose to go into a field? Are they qualified to do all tests but just choose not to do them?

Sorry for being stupid but I hope all these Doctors are talking with each other.

thanks Diane
