Re: YOUNGWOMEN: Frequent urination, painful, end of period? From: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 28 Oct 2007 10:12:14 -0500 (CDT)
The symptoms you are describing sound like a UTI. Sounds like you need to visit your MD for a urine culture. They will send off a urine specimen to see if there is an infection and if so, which antibiotic is most sensitive to the bacteria in the urine. The blood may very well be from your period, however, this is something that will show in the urine too. It would be better if you could see a Urologist as a Urologist will do a straight catheter to get a very sterile sample of your urine. This sample will not have any of the vaginal flora or any of the blood from your period. A straight cath involves using a small catheter that is placed so it can get urine. It is relatively painless. Good luck to you!!
