A thickened endometrium of 14 mm in a postmenopausal woman is abnormal, and needs explanation.

It could be a benign process such as a polyp, or other things such as endometrial hyperplasia (lining overgrowth) which, in some instances, can be pre-malignant. Of course, it could be endometrial cancer, but that is unlikely absent bleeding.

Evaluation can be any or all of the following:

Office biopsy, saline sonogram, or hysteroscopy.
