PREGNANCY: cerclage and plane travelFrom: Andreia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 22 Sep 2007 02:35:56 -0500 (CDT)
I am Brazilian and live in Tokyo currently. I am pregnant of 21 weeks and my doctor found out that I have an incompetent cervix. My cervix was opened half centimeter and I had a cerclage 3 days ago. I am very concerned about the information provided by my doctor. First he hospitalized me for 3 days at Intensive Care Unit and gave me antibiotics and medicine to avoid contradiction, however, I had never felt any contradiction at all. Now, he is saying that after my cerclage, I can be back to my normal life within 2 to 3 days. He said that I can even exercises (gently ones), go back to work, intercourse with my husband etc...) I have been reading on several websites that I should rest at least for 2 weeks after the cerclage and restrict my exercise and intercourse with my husband. Based on your experience, what do you think about the information I have been getting from my doctor? I am considering to go back home for the delivery as the healthy system in Japan is not very good. To give you an idea, my gynecologyst was the one who also administrated the anesthesis for the cerclage. In my country, an Anesthesiologist should be the one administrating it. My concern is that it takes me 24 hours flying from Japan to Brazil and I am not sure of risk of doing that. I am thinking of going back during my 33 week. What do you think? I would appreciate any information, opinion you could share with me.
