It will take a complete workup of the urinary retention to figure this
out including Urodynamics, and a cystoscopy (a look inside the bladder,
painless and requires only local anesthetic gel). You may need spinal
imaging as this can be neurologic. There are larger bags that can be
"hung" on the bedpost. If this goes on for more than a few days you can
easily learn to pass a catheter several times a day yourself and do away
with the internal catheter and bag altogether. This is better for you
and you know when you are done when you can empty again. Discuss all
with your urologist.
