A catheter has a fluid filled balloon in it that can irritate your urethra. It should be taped in place on your thigh so it does not move too much and pull, that will make it more comfortable. Learning intermittent self catheterization can remove the need for the bag altogether. Some women learn to use a plug in the catheter with no bag and just unplug it when they feel full and empty into the toilet. There are many options here.
